Featured Stamper

My card is for the Featured Stamper Challenge, the Color Combo Challenge, the Sketch Challenge, and the Way to Use It Challenge (all for this past week). This week, I have been struggling with each of these challenges. I created a separate card for each challenge, but all of them ended up in the trash. Well today I saw the polka dot paper in Neva's card it made me think of the polka dot paper in the Cutie Pie DP -- and that's all it took. Thanks Neva you really inspired me!!!!! Did I do you proud -- 4 challenges in one card?

Color Challenge

Not my best, but at least I am stamping again.

This is for the color challenge on SCS. The colors this week are Rose Red, Certainly Celery, and Marina Mist. I need a Sympathy card for tomorrow, so I thought I would do a quick card for the challenge.

I stamped the branch from the new Easter Blossoms set from the Mini with Staz On and then colored it in with my SU markers (rose, marina, and celery). I distressed each layer.

CAS55 ~ Makeover

Today's CAS (Clean & Simple) challenge is to makeover one of our cards. I chose to redo the second card that you can see here, (the first one is Brandon's). I need to make a few Teenage boy cards, and my boys have told me to use stars -- so that's what I am going to do :o).

I picked up $1 stamp set from Studio G, to make some "Rock Star" cards. I think these stamps are cute, but they are definitely not the quality of SU! I changed the color scheme and used the star punches instead of the heart punches. I used LeAnne's idea of stamping the background diagonally, which you can see here. The background is the Tiny Mosaic embossing folder.

FS159 - Everythin's Coming Up Roses

Today's Featured stamper is Judy Rose. I stumbled onto Judy's gallery a few weeks ago through all the challenges I have been doing. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW. Go visit her gallery it is truly AMAZING!!! I had a difficult time choosing which card to CASE. I had saved this card to my favorites before I even knew Judy, so I thought it should be the one.

We are supposed to change at least 2 things. I changed everything but the colors, and layout -- but the card is still the same. I didn't have the pretty rhinestone ribbon slide, so I made my own. I look the rectangle ribbon slide from the hodgepodge hardware set and I used Crystal Effects to glue rhinestones around the edges. I made the puffy flowers from Velum like yesterday, but this time I sponged Groovy Guava on the edges. This is one of the Flower Pocket cards. There is a great tutorial on SCS, if you are interested.

I saw the sketch on Stamping 411 this morning. I just love the card that Lee Conrey created, it's stunning!! I wish I had that die cut, maybe on my next order :o). I don't usually complete this challenge until later in the week, but this card was stuck in my mind.

Next up was to look at today's Inspiration challenge on SCS. This week we are being inspired by Lark. You should go visit, there is so much inspiration there -- for all types of stampers. I was drawn to this tea towel. I love the "clean" aspects of it.

So I combined the inspiration from Lee's card and the tea towel and came up with this card. I started off by creating a puffy flower from Vellum. Then I scored the whisper white cs in a diagonal pattern. Next I ran the CS through my Cuttle bug with the Elegant Bouquet Embossing folder. I colored the dots with my Taken with Teal marker (I need to be neater next time). The leaves were created with the 5 petal flower punch. The ribbon is the last of my teal velvet ribbon (retired). I think this ribbon is very pretty, but it is so difficult to tie.

I don't whether you can see from the picture of the card inside that I scored the Whisper White layer. I wanted to keep it simple so I scored 1/2" & 3/4" in on each side.

I started this card yesterday. I was going to combine the WT258 challenge (using orange) with Mercy's Sketch challenge. I was having such a difficult time with making a card with orange on it. I figured that apricot appeal was a shade of orange -- right? To be honest in my mind I knew I was cheating. I do these challenges every day trying to improve my performance, and using apricot would not have been a challenge. So I put this image aside and did the 2 cards that you saw yesterday.

The good news is you get to see it today. I think this qualifies for the LSC260 challenge -- I used ribbon, and then I used Nesties for my border punch. I stamped the image with Tuxedo Black and colored it in with my SU markers -- Certainly Celery, Apricot Appeal, Blush Blossom, and Going Grey. I masked the image and sponges around it with Blush Blossom. The Apricot Appeal DP is from one of the hostess paper packs, and the Celery DP is from the Shades of Spring.

Today's challenge on SCS is to use ribbon and a border punch. Whew, a challenge that is not very difficult.

I need more sympathy cards in my stash. When the time comes that I need one, my mojo seems to fly out the window, so I like to have a few on hand. I made this one really clean and simple. I picked the ribbon up at the store (mikey's), and I thought it would be good for a clean sympathy card. I don't know whether you can tell by the picture, but it has blue sparkly dots between the white pattern.

WT258 ~ Orange Love

Today on SCS the Way to Use It challenge was to use Orange. Oh boy, I am definitely NOT an orange person. I know there are some ladies out there that love orange, but I am not one of them. It is my least favorite color. I guess that's why they call it a challenge -- huh? I don't have a lot of time tonight, homework is still a bear. I guess that is what you get when you are off for 11 days straight.

I created the Tango card first, but I just couldn't get over all the orange -- so I did another one with Saffron instead. There's no stamping on these cards, just DP. This is the Haiku DP, it was in the Fall 2008 catalog -- I think. I do not know what possessed me to purchase this DP, but it came in handy. Oh -- I used the sketch from yesterday.

The kids went back to school today -- Yippee!! That's the good part, the mountain of homework is the bad part. I kinda feel sorry for them, but not really -- they had 11 days off. I have to make this quick, 'cuz we aren't done with homework.

This card is for the sketch challenge on SCS and for the Guy card challenge on Stampin' Royalty. Boy did I want to put ribbon on this card, but boys don't want ribbon. So I had to settle for pearls. This card is not my style, but I think I like it :o)

I am rambling today, so you can scroll down to the bottom for the card details and inside -- I won't mind.

This card is for the color challenge on SCS today ~~ Soft Suede, Perfect Plum, and Pale Plum. You know I love my purples, but I was having a difficult time incorporating the soft suede in without any greens. I was stumped. Then I looked at my BLOG background and I thought that I could do the patterned background in suede with some butterflies.

I started off with the Suede card stock and stamped the pattern BG on it. Then I cut a 3" strip of some pale plum DP from the Enchante package (retired -- I think it was from the spring of 07). I was going to place that in the middle and have 3 butterflies along the border. That didn't look right. So then I cut a circle out of the DP and lined it up along the left side. I placed the ribbon right across the middle, but again I couldn't get the 3 butterflies to work. Then I moved the ribbon down, but that still didn't work. So I cut another circle with the sentiment and placed that up at the top. I was liking this more and more -- you see this rest. So that is how this card came to be. I think I went overboard with the rhinestones, and I want something else in the big circle -- but it's a good card.

I was kinda tickled with myself for thinking up this layout, I loved the circles -- I don't do them enough. I was going to take my pictures but my batteries were dead. While I was waiting for my batteries to re-charge, I starting blurfing. I came across a card almost exactly like mine, guess what it was from Taylor's Sketch challenge. Now I would like to think that Taylor and I think alike (who wouldn't -- she is one talented lady!!!), but I am sure that I saw a card this weekend while I was blurfing and it stuck in the back of my mind. I guess this layout wasn't my own idea.

Now you are probably wondering why I am telling you all this. 99.99% of the time I create what I think are my own cards. If I do CASE a card I try and give credit where credit is due. To be honest, I blurf a lot, so what I think is my own idea may have come from a card that I saw. I am sure this is true of a lot of stampers. So I guess I accidentally CASEd Taylor's card and sketch.

I debated whether or not I was going to bring this other issue up, but my feelings were really hurt. On Friday I created a card for the LPS challenge, we were supposed to be inspired by a President. I created an Easter card. When I was little my parents took us to the White House for the Easter Egg roll -- it was so fun and I have never forgotten each time we went. Someone left an anonymous comment on my BLOG (I have deleted it) saying that Faith thought of this idea first, and I should have given her credit -- like I stole her idea -- well I didn't. (For the record I do not think that Faith had anything to do with this). I guess my point is that just because you may think that someone "Copied" your idea, they may have thought of it on their own -- or may think that they did.

There are a lot of stampers out there who do not like it when they are CASEd, personally I am flattered when someone wants to CASE one of my card -- it means they liked it. I would love it if you let me see your card, but if you don't -- no biggie. I guess the only thing that would be bad about CASEing is if you copied one of my cards exactly and then won a contest or earned some money from it -- not likely, my cards aren't THAT good.

Did anyone see the Race yesterday? It was so good, LONG LONG LONG but what a finish. I really wanted Junior to pull it out, but second isn't bad. Jeff finished near the top, and poor Jimmie had a terrible day.

Today's Try a New Technique challenge on SCS was to create a Matchbook Candy Holder.

This candy holder is used to hold one of the Ghiradelli square chocolates. I don't have any of those chocolates since I don't really like chocolate (I know I am weird), but I figured I could pick some up for the boys. It is past Valentine's day, so I thought I would make one for Easter. There is a really good tutorial on SCS which you can find here.

I used the shades of spring DP for this little candy holder. I punched certainly celery card stock with the Pinking Hearts border punch, and then turned it upside down -- I thought it looked like grass that way. What do you think? The butterfly is one of the new SU embosslits (love them). The tiny rhinestones are from mikey's

This is the inside -- the chocolate goes in that little pocket.

I made this clean and simple, so I thought it would qualify for the "Wishing for Spring" CAS challenge too.

CAS54 ~~ Wishing for Spring

Once again the boys do not have school, it's President's Day. To top it off they are calling for another snow storm today. If they are off school again tomorrow, I might go CRAZY. We have had a fun time this past week, but it is time to get back to the normal schedule.

Brandon set his alarm for 5 am this morning, so he could create his CAS card for the week. Here is his card, and of course I haven't had a chance to do mine.

Today's CAS challenge is to create a card for Spring, so he started with the Shades of Spring DP. Brandon punched each of the squares with my 1-1/4" square punch (this made it really easy for him to line things up). He attached each square to a piece of whisper white CS, and then trimmed the edges (with a little help). See how he did the lined paper -- he has it going towards the middle (his idea). He used 2 different ribbons (I helped him with the bow). He wanted the celery button on there "to give it more color". He is definitely teaching me to look at things differently. I would have used a white button, never a celery button -- but his really works. He stamped the sentiment at the bottom. The new clear mounted stamps really make it easy to line things up.

I'm back with my card for the Featured Stamper Challenge (see here for details of challenge). I have to hurry, 'cuz The Race is going to start in 5 minutes. I think the colors are messed up on this picture. The mug and the ribbon match perfectly in real life.

I CASEd this card. I changed the Colors, ribbon, stamp, and DP. I added a button and didn't use any brads.

Today's Featured Stamper is Laurie aka HamiltonGal! I know I say this every week, but Oh my her gallery is just stocked with fabulous cards!!

I am CASEing the Easter chick that she created (you can see it here). I plan on doing a card too, but I haven't had a chance yet. I saw these little chicks last year around Easter, and I never had a chance to create one. So, today is the day to try.

I changed the ribbon that she used, the way that she tied the ribbon, and the punches that she used for the feet and the hair.
