Going Pink

I was blurfing this evening, and Amy (Gone INKognito) had this post about going PINK. Well I have decided to post the info here also. Read the entire post it is so important.

Without a cure, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer - a devastating disease with physical, emotional, psychological and financial pain that can last a lifetime.

Without a cure, an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer - and more than 1 million could die - over the next 25 years.

Without a cure, an estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer - and 10 million could die - over the next 25 years.

A grassroots organization called Pink for October is encouraging everyone with a website to go pink for the month of October -- to raise awareness and encourage breast cancer education.

We can and should help raise money for research.Over the past 25 years, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (now Susan G. Komen for the Cure) has contributed significantly to some major victories in the fight against breast cancer:

More early detection - nearly 75 percent of women over 40 years old now receive regular mammograms, the single most effective tool for detecting breast cancer early (in 1982, less than 30 percent received a clinical exam).

More hope - the five-year survival rate for breast cancer, when caught early before it spreads beyond the breast, is now 98 percent (compared to 74 percent in 1982).

More research - the federal government now devotes more than $900 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment and prevention (compared to $30 million in 1982).

More survivors - America's 2.3 million breast cancers survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S., are a living testament to the power of society and science to save lives. But the fight against breast cancer isn't over until we've found a cure.

You can help today by donating to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You can also help today by leaving a comment on this post.

For every person who comments on this post during the month of October, I will donate $1 (up to a maximum of $100) to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Note: Statistics about the fight against breast cancer are from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure website.

Corie, this is a wonderful thing that you are doing. I agree, we certainly need to raise awareness of Breast Cancer.

Unfortunately, it has struck 8 of my aunts and cousins in total, 2 of which had to have mastectomies to rid themselves of the Cancer.

It's my wish to stay breast cancer free, but we also need to find a cure and that starts with more donations. You're on your way! Thank you so much for your generosity! You have such a kind heart! :)

Hugs,
Julie

What a great thing to do. Thank you for sharing this info and doing what you are doing. This is for a great cause. My family has been touched by Breast Cancer more than once. Ladies go and please get checked out I am 36 and had a mammagram done. They found two spots. I have to see a surgeon next week. Dont think your age has anything to do with it. Its better to be safe than sorry.

I'm a 17-year breast cancer survivor. Thank you for helping to raise awareness and for donating to the fund. I'll be attending a stamp convention tomorrow where they auction off a huge basket of goodies and all the proceeds go to the same! so even if I don't win it, I'm still a winner!

Rebecca said...

I am another breast cancer survivor and applaud your efforts to raise awareness and provide some much needed education and support to this worthy cause. No woman should go without a mammogram because of being short of funds. There are lots of community and national organizations that provide them for free. I am living proof that mammograms work. I don't have a blog, but I am "Going Pink" in all my e-mails, adding a header and a link to www.thebreastcancersite.com where you can visit once a day and click on the button to help fund free mammograms. It's easy -- just do it!! Thanks, again.
